Worship the Developer

New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's bid for re-election actually stirred a little debate on housing. This from the Amsterdam News:

On the issue of affordable housing for middle-class families, (Anthony) Weiner said (Mayor Michael R.) Bloomberg has done little to help New Yorkers.

''We worship at the altar of any big developer, and there has to be a public benefit in return,'' he said.

It's not much, but the fact that the word "housing" was actually introduced into a campaign debate is encouraging.
